A plumber assists in the maintenance and servicing of sanitary fixtures. They also replace and repair sanitary fixtures and fittings. They are trained to diagnose the problem in the plumbing system. They follow safety and health regulations while doing their work.

Entry Pathway
Minimum Qualification • After completing Class 8 and with 2 years of experience as an assistant plumber, you can pursue National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)* Level 4 training for Plumbing
OR
• After completing Class 10 they can complete an I.T.I (Industrial Training Institute) course in Plumbing, then pursue NSQF Level 4 training in Plumbing
*NSQF is a nationally integrated education and competency-based framework that enables persons to acquire desired competency levels in a chosen field. NSQF includes vocational education, vocational training, general education and technical education which prepares an individual for the job market with competent skills. An individual may return at any time to upgrade skills after gaining experience

Places of work: Any place with a plumbing system will employ plumbers. For instance construction companies, residential complexes and buildings, corporate organizations and complexes, malls and departmental stores, hospitals, restaurants and hotels, companies dealing with plumbing work
Entrepreneurship: After a few years of experience you can be self-employed and take on projects independently. You can also join service aggregator companies
Work Environment: It is a field job and entails travel from different work sites. You may have to work in constricted and moist spaces, work daytime hours and put in extra hours to complete a project

One of my daughters' is married, one employed, and the others are studying. I can now lead a dignified life,” she says.
