A Tea Taster is a trained individual who is responsible for determining the quality of a particular sample of tea. Not only is a tea taster tasked with determining the quality of tea, but he/she is also responsible for highlighting the difference between various types of tea.

1. Complete 10 + 2 in the Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
2. Complete a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Botany/Horticulture/Agricultural Sciences/Food Sciences or other related fields
OR Complete a Bachelor’s degree followed by a Master’s degree (MSc) in the same or related field
OR Complete a Bachelor’s degree followed by a certificate course on tea tasting

Work Environment: It is not a desk job. You are likely to supervise a team of tea estate workers. Local travel is not a part of this job role. Part-time work and contractual jobs are likely to be available. Companies usually work for 6 to 7 days a week and 8 to 9 hours every day. This may vary from company to company.
Snigdha Manchanda is India's first certified tea sommelier, tea taster and tea consultant. She founded her company Tea Trunk in 2013. Manchanda received her training from a professional tea school in Sri Lanka, where she studied under the guidance of Japanese tea master, Nao Kumekawa. Following the Lankan experience she did a stint at The Speciality Tea Institute, New York, where she studied the art of blending. She also has a Bachelor’s in Management Studies (BMS) in marketing, rural marketing, international business, organizational development, human resources from the University of Mumbai.*
