Tool engineers design and draft blueprints of tools or parts of vehicles, airplanes, heavy equipment, or customized parts majorly using Computer-Aided (CAD) software. They are not only responsible for designing new tools but also making improvements to existing ones.

PV Rajalakshmi is the first woman Tool and Die Engineer in Asia. She now runs an engineering services in Bangalore, called Mantra Leistung where training is imparted in design and manufacturing. It also organises skill development programmes for individuals and industries. She completed her Diploma in Tool and Die Making in 1982 from NTTF, Kerala; then worked for 5 years in NTTF, Bengaluru, for industrial training. After gaining some experience, she started her own institute to help employees across different industries by training them according to industry requirements.*
